In her second feature, director Lili Horvát weaves a hypnotic tale of an uncertain reality. After decades working in the U.S., successful neurosurgeon Márta returns to Budapest to fulfill a pact she’s made with János, a fellow doctor she met at a medical convention. They’ve agreed to meet at the Liberty Bridge and begin a new life together. When János fails to appear, Márta tracks him down. “Sorry,” he says, “but I’ve never seen you before.” So begins a riveting journey through the murkiness of memory and the complex tangle of romantic projection.
