With FAMILIAR TOUCH director Sarah Friedland
LIVE DISCUSSION
FRIDAY | JUNE 27 | 12PM PT
The State of Movies is a monthly discussion series exploring the latest releases, trends and headlines in cinema culture, hosted by Galerie’s resident film critic Kaleem Aftab.
Sarah Friedland’s feature Familiar Touch—an intimate portrait of an octogenarian (Kathleen Chalfant) grappling with dementia—swept the 2024 Venice Film Festival, earning unanimous praise and multiple awards, including the Lion of the Future for best debut. The film begins its theatrical rollout in select cities at the end of this month. Friedland joins critic Kaleem Aftab to discuss Familiar Touch’s journey from the Villa Gardens retirement home to festival acclaim and mainstream distribution.
