Upon his release from prison, accused arsonist Amador returns home to the mountains of Gailicia in northwest Spain. He moves back in with his mother, the stoic Benedicta, returning to a solitary life of tending cows on their sprawling property. But lingering disdain for his crime permeates a village continually threatened by the sudden, catastrophic destruction of wildfire.
Speaking with film critic Yonca Talu for Galerie, director Oliver Laxe reflected: “I hope the story moves the audience enough that by the end they are no longer inside their heads. That’s the moment when images can enter the human metabolism, which is what I tried to do in this film.”
Following a live screening of the film, we will be joined by Laxe, who will answer questions on the making of this evocative meditation on man and nature, forever at the mercy of each other.
