Karyn Kusama: On Process

For each project, Los Angeles-based filmmaker Karyn Kusama sifts through countless images to create a lookbook that charts the story’s visual path. The hunt for source material spans libraries, museums and bookstores—especially Arcana, a Culver City institution specializing in art and photography titles. “I can spend hours and hours in this place, I go sort of insane,” says Kusama. “Books, to me, are the foundation of how I start.”
