Lukas Dhont Origin Story

“As a kid, I felt like my reality was something that I wanted to flee from,” says Lukas. “A lot of the times when I was on the playground, I felt that I didn’t really belong to the group of boys and I didn’t really belong to the group of girls. I felt like I fell in between a little bit.” The love stories of TITANIC (which his mother described to him secondhand, as episodic bedtime tales) and BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN played pivotal roles in Lukas’s cinematic coming-of-age. After suppressing his queer identity for years, he discovered film’s capacity to build bridges, harnessing the medium to confront his internal struggles and speak authentically.
