The Invitation

A well-heeled dinner party in the Hollywood Hills takes a disturbing detour into a twilight zone in director Karyn Kusama’s THE INVITATION, a superbly crafted thriller whose latent tension gradually builds to a deafening roar. Logan Marshall-Green and Tammy Blanchard play a divorced couple meeting again after a family tragedy and a lengthy break, their relaxed gathering of old friends unraveling into anarchy as vanishing guests, shock revelations, violent outbursts and creepy cult members sour the laid-back mood. Co-written by Kusama’s husband, Phil Hay, this classy nerve-jangler wrings maximum chills from its pressure-cooker setting.
