Wendy and Lucy
An elegant and quiet chamber piece about a woman and her dog trying to land on their feet in small-town Oregon, Reichardt’s film is neither tragic nor exploitative, but rather methodical and heartrending as Wendy (a steely Michelle Williams) strives against a system designed for her to lose every time. This film marks the first of several moving collaborations between Williams and Reichardt, as well as the director’s second script co-written with frequent screenwriting partner Jonathan Raymond.

- Notes From Lukas DhontImmediately connected to my inner outsider. It made me revisit Agnes Varda’s Vagabond —a film I love to the same extent. WENDY AND LUCY has an end sequence destined to break my heart over and over again. Kelly Reichardt’s work shows me (dis)comfort in the use of time and space like no other. There is a purity and intimacy here that never ceases to amaze me.
