CODED LOVE
Hosted by writer and curator Tim Griffin
ARCHIVED DISCUSSION
FRIDAY | SEPTEMBER 22 | 12PM PT
“Even as the age of AI is upon us, the technology is still most commonly associated with the future—and typically a dystopian one at that, revealing the precarious position of humanity.
Yet technology’s representation in film often takes us in another direction. True, audiences are apt to find themselves preoccupied by the ominous power of replicants in Blade Runner, or unnerved by the Copernican innovations of wetware in Ex Machina. But the ‘purloined letter’ in such narratives—the engine that drives them—is usually a love story unfolding in real time. Which prompts the question: Why?” —Tim Griffin
In this discussion, writer and curator Tim Griffin will explore this conundrum, expanding on his Galerie essay AI: Artificial Intimacy.
A former editor of Artforum and executive director and chief curator of the Kitchen, the renowned New York City art and avant-garde performance institution, Griffin is currently executive director of The Industry, a multidisciplinary performance company in Los Angeles.
